Getting help
Fluo is made by one person. Email fluo@johanraes.be and you will get a reply from that person, usually within a few days. Bug reports are welcome and genuinely useful — include your macOS version and what you were doing when it broke.
Setting up
Creating an Anthropic API key
Analysis features need a key from console.anthropic.com. Create an account, add a payment method, generate a key, and paste it into Fluo's Settings. You are billed by Anthropic for what you use — there is no Fluo subscription and no markup. A typical analysis costs a few cents.
Transcription, playback, highlighting and export work without a key. If you only want to transcribe and read, you can skip this entirely.
The first transcription takes a while
Before the first transcription, Fluo downloads a speech recognition model of about 1.5 GB and prepares it for your hardware. Preparation can take ten minutes or more, once, and the app will tell you what it is doing. Every transcription after that is much faster than real time.
If the download stalls, cancel and restart it — Fluo will not silently leave you with a partial model.
Common problems
A file won't import
Fluo checks that a file's declared duration matches what it can actually decode, and refuses files where those disagree. This usually means the recording is truncated: it has a valid header but the audio stops early. Meeting recordings that were interrupted mid-upload are the usual culprit. The original recording, if you still have it, will import fine.
The transcript is in the wrong language
Set the expected language in Settings before transcribing. Automatic detection is reliable on long recordings and unreliable on short ones or on recordings that start with silence.
Names and jargon come out wrong
Speech recognition mangles product names, brand names and domain terms. Correct it once in the transcript and Fluo can apply that correction across the whole session, rather than making you fix the same word forty times.
Analysis says it can't reach Anthropic
Check that your key is still valid and that your Anthropic account has credit. Keys are revoked or expire; an account with a zero balance produces the same failure as a wrong key.
Refunds
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Fluo is not doing what this site said it would, tell me as well — that is a fault worth knowing about.
Privacy
What Fluo stores and what it sends is documented in full on the privacy page. The short version: your recordings stay on your Mac, transcription runs locally, and analysis sends transcript text to Anthropic using your own key.
